What to Expect
If it is your first time visiting, I will ask you some questions about your current physical condition, medical history, experiences with areas of pain, areas that hold tension, and whether there is any specific need you want addressed.
Next, you will be asked to remove your clothing. Massage is traditionally performed with the client totally unclothed, but you can wear underwear if it would make you feel more comfortable. You should also remove any jewelry or other articles that might interfere with the massage.
I will leave the room to provide privacy while you undress and get under the sheet/blanket. I will knock on the door before entering. During the session I will uncover only the part of the body being massaged, then I will re-drape so that you feel safe and warm.
The massage takes place on a comfortable heated and padded massage table. (If you prefer, the heat can be switched off.) Expect a peaceful, comfortable, and clean environment for the massage. Soft music will be playing and candles will be lit to help you relax. Your massage time begins once you are on the table.
Depending on your needs, I will massage the full body or focus on specific areas that need attention. General relaxation or stress reduction sessions usually include massaging all the major areas of the body. A session for a localized injury or pain will concentrate mainly in key areas.
It is important to let me know immediately if you feel any pain or if anything does not feel comfortable to you. You are the one who knows your body the best. Always make sure you are comfortable. This includes adjustments not only in massage pressure (touch), but also in lighting, music volume, positioning, etc.
Your only “job” during the massage is to clear your mind and breathe. Let go! This is your time. It is a gift. Give yourself permission to release stress and tightness. Allow yourself to soften more and more into the table with each exhale. Let your body feel what it is like to be totally relaxed. Let yourself feel good.
If you want to talk during your massage, that is fine. But don’t feel obligated. Again, this is your vacation. Do what makes you comfortable. At the end of the massage, you will once again be provided with privacy to get dressed. When I reenter the room, feel free to ask any questions you may have. You may schedule your next appointment at this time.
What to do After Your Treatment
Please drink lots of water — it helps flush out any toxins that were released during treatment. Plan to take it slow for the next hour or so. This allows the massage to settle into the body. Most people feel relaxed and refreshed after a massage. Sometimes, especially after a deep tissue massage, there is post-massage soreness. This is nothing to worry about. After it subsides (usually within a day), you should feel a great reduction of your original muscle tightness and/or pain.
I look forward to Working with you - It's time to Exhale! You deserve it.
